Climate at Sri Lanka
The vegetation and the climate at Sri Lanka are tropical. Because Sri Lanka lays only 6 to 10 degrees north from the equator, its average temperature is very high: In the plain the year average is between 27 and 29 degrees celsius. The strongest rain falls as summer monsun-rain at the westside.
Outside the jungle there is a softer climate because of the sea.
Country and people
Sri Lanka is an Island in the indian ocean south of India. Its is circa 65.000 qkm large, the population are 18 million people. Singhalesish and tamilish are the two official languages of Sri Lanka, but english is spoken as the second language. Already the spice dealers of the antique reported from the undescribable beauty of serendibs, how they called the island. Later it was called Ceylon, today the Singhalesies call it proudly Sri Lanka.
The currency is the Sri Lanka rupie. (SL Rs.). 1 rupie is 100 cents. There are coins with 5, 10, 25 and 50 cents and 1, 2 , 5 rupies and notes of 10, 20, 50, 100, 500 and 1000 rupies. 100 rupien = ca. US $ 1.65.
